The Lady Pioneers Softball team opened their season with an 8-7 victory over the Tell City Marksmen. The Lady Marksmen struck first taking an early three run lead in the top of the first. The Pioneers responded quickly with a lead off double by Junior Brooke Allen. A single to left by Junior Faith Wittman quickly advanced Allen to third. Ashlie Ripperdan hit a sacrifice fly scoring Allen to put the Pioneers on the board. Wittman lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning with a double to left and eventually advanced and scored on a wild pitch. Trailing by 1, the Pioneers finally found their stride at the plate in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs to take a 8-3 lead over the Marksmen. While the Marksmen rallied in the top of the seventh, the Pioneer defense held on to secure the win. Wittman leading the team in hits, went 4 for 4 with two doubles. Caresse King and Brooke Allen both had a pair of RBI’s. Freshman Ariel Thomasson earned her first varsity win on the mound.
Following the Varsity victory, the Junior Varsity softball team stayed hot as the temperature dropped with a 14-3 victory over Tell City. The Pioneers scored multiple runs in the first three innings. Freshman Courtney Knight smashed a two-run home run over the scoreboard to secure the Pioneer victory. Freshman Maddie Winge earned her first JV win in the circle. Great job, Ladies!
On Deck: The Lady Pioneers will host the Daviess County Panthers this evening. The Varsity game will begin at 5pm cts. There is no JV game scheduled to follow. GO PIONEERS!
